Restocks specialty trays, plates, screws in a timely manner prior to sterilization

Follows all required safety and central processing standards, including OSHA Blood borne Pathogen Standard to avoid injury and contamination to self and others

Responsible for moving 50 lbs

Preforms cooperatively with a certified trainer and other certified technicians

Uses departmental computer and paper systems to maintain equipment records

Use all types of communication

Participate in special project teams

Ensure compliance with J&J environmental policies/guidelines, J&J Pollution Prevention Goals and regulatory requirements

Coordinate process operations and material movement from other departments and throughout the sterilization area

Maintenance of production work to include recording books, stamping run records and books associated with the material or devices being sterilized

Supports, understands, and adheres to continuous improvement principles and rules by identifying, evaluating and resolving problems

Environmental monitoring – facilitating, collecting, reviewing, and/or reporting data

Utility monitoring including compressed air and nitrogen system – collecting, reviewing, and reporting data

Water testing – sample collection, shipping, and testing

Facilitate and/or perform product bioburden testing

Facilitate and/or perform product bacterial endotoxin testing

Responsibilities for sterilization technician

• Nonconformance review support
• Material handling of customer product
• Able to conduct direct inoculation of microorganisms and recoveries
• Conduct population verification of biological indicators
• Conduct d-value testing and calculate d-values for biological indicators

• Associate Degree from a vocational school or technical college of at least 1800 hours
• Ability to utilize Microsoft Office Products to generate graphs and data collection sheets document procedures and methods
• Ability to understand and apply basic mathematical and statistical concepts
• Must have schedule flexibility and be able to work 630pm-630am (rotating 4 days on, 4 days off)
• Educational experience equivalent to a High School Diploma with five years previous technician experience, or an Associate's Degree with three years previous technician experience, or a Bachelor's Degree with one year experience
• Two years previous sterile processing experience, instrument room, or central supply experience in an acute care setting with comparable patient mix (trauma, open heart, total joint replacement, complex neuro procedures)

• Operates forklift to remove palletized product from truck, and if floor loaded must remove each carton individually and place on pallets, and moves to un-processed storage

• Must be able to lift 50 pounds and perform repetitive bending and lifting motions over a period of time
• Requires bending, twisting, squatting, pushing / pulling motions and lifting up to 50 lbs
• 2 years’ experience in High-level disinfection, Endoscopy
• Flexible scope Reprocessing/ High-level disinfection certification or obtain within 12 months of hire

• Oversees and participates in new employee training

Qualifications for sterilization technician

• Demonstrated ability to learn and understand procedure and protocol
• Six (6) months to one (1) year of previous warehouse / Sterilization / GMP experience preferred (food or medical device)
• Six (6) months to one (1) year of experience operating a forklift preferred
• General understanding of microbiology and cGMP preferred
• Must stand on feet for extended periods of time and work in a sterile production environment
• State Licensure or certification as a Sterilization Processing Technician, as required by state regulations or contract specifications
